In the UK I think you will find that only the steerable wheels need to be of the same construction and therefore same make. Obviously same sizes.

France will have the same rules as they are EU rules.

You could have put the mismatched makes on the rear as long as they were also radial, the rolling diameter remained the same and also the width.

Hi Makem

Sadly when you are hundreds of miles from home and need to press on needs outweigh the thought process, the French mechanic advised me that he could not fit a mix of tyres
and, as I needed to press on I felt I had little choice.

I have put it down to a learning experience!!

Hi everyone, just an update on the stop/start. I had a call from Ford this morning to say that the software was due the first week of October. Hopefully this is correct and we can all get it fitted. I will keep you posted.

This thread is too long to read everything so this is my experience.
Car is Zetec 1.0 (120) ecoboost

1 week old

every morning this week, I set off from house, 1st set of lights about 1 mile away.

engine stops/restarts if I get stopped at lights.

Headlights are on and on 2 occasions so was aircon.

If this changes, I will re-post

stephenmcg,

Only too long if your Stop/Start is working like it apparently is, but I can assure you, for those of us who are not as fortunate as you then a real issue.
Weird this week. Returned from a 2 week holiday, got the car from the garage, raining & dark so headlights & wipers on, A/C on at 22.5 degrees to clear the screen and warm the car & heated rear window on & could not believe it when the Stop/Start worked.
Got to the next traffic island and NOT A CHANCE, Stop/Start non existent. Proves to me there is an obvious problem after all we have said about battery's etc. which by the way must be powerful enough as it worked with all these things on, and the car had been stood for 2 weeks !!!!
Might have some news by the end of the week as I had a small issue with the auto lights not going off in daylight. Only a minor problem, but took the opportunity to ring the dealer so that I could get it in and see what software up-dates they will do as listed on ETIS for my car. I have made them aware that I no there are a few so that they are not missed.
I will post and let you know what happens.

I had stop / start in a Hyundai ix20; not altogether pleased with it. The wear on the starter motor and battery, two expensive components must be considerable; and hardly worth using for start stop progression in most traffic conditions, or at traffic lights. It is quite simple to turn off engine and restart if you anticipate a longish wait.

JOHNWALES,

As I have posted elsewhere, I had a Hyundai ix20 and simply turned off the stop-start as it was nothing more than a nuisance. Agree that the ignition key is a far better bet.

My earlier post on this topic was not meant to upset anyone.
I was trying to say that I have no problems and maybe the latest batch has any issues resolved.

This morning the temp was about 5 deg. It did not switch off at first 2 sets of lights but by the time I reached 3rd set (and a bit of heat coming through) it worked normally.

It is also very sensitive to clutch. I have to take foot away from pedal for engine to stop,

though you have to push pedal well in to generate a restart.

I trust that you all get sorted soon.

My only issue is with spare tyre but this will be on another post

I think there are a number of factors that govern whether or not stop / start functions. Outside temperature, state of the battery, and the number of accessories in use. I do not consider people with this feature to be lucky, and do not know why this suggestion was made. On my old ix 20 it was difficult to work out a reason why it was spasmodic in reaction; in the early days it sometimes needed 60 miles before activating, which on a few occasions made me worry as to the state of the battery and alternator.

OK, things a little clearer now,My vehicle went in as planned for the auto lights, but no need to report on that. More importantly, Start/Stop.
All the info that I found on ETIS re: Modules installed, mean just that, that my vehicle has those certain modules installed. When you click on any one of them and there are sub details, that tells you what to do if you install a new module, what service actions to take and the software version on the car. It will also show if there is an up-date as well. I sat down with the mechanic and service manager and he explained that if software is available for anything whatsoever then it would tell you that and would install it. My dealer, & I am sure they are all the same told me that nothing gets missed as every time it comes in it gets plugged into the computer and gets checked for up-dates etc.
Also, he showed me thier ETIS which is more complexed which allows them to search systematically for all problems that are reported for any Ford vehicle, and if there are any solutions or up-dates or recalls associated with those problems.
As for Dunstons Start/Stop software upgrade, not to put a downer on it, but my dealer tells me that as far as he is concerned , after checking my vehicle there is no such up-grade for the Start/Stop but Ford may have done a specific one to try on his car and if success is reported, then it will probably be issued for them all. I was happy and understood what he told me, and he has now reported my Stop/Start officially to Ford.

Sometimes wish I still had my 1953 Ford Anglia !! Life was so simple then. What percentage of cars that break down on the highway actually get repaired by AA / RAC patrols these days. Do they carry electronic equipment to diagnose faults.
