Hi, every time I insert a USB stick with my music on Sync works well to select tracks etc and it plays fine right up to engine off/door open. But when I start the car the next day the USB has been wiped clean!!! There are no files left on it at all (checked on 2 PCs). Is this a problem withe the Sony system of the wiring to the USB socket? Any suggestion greatly appreciated. Thanks

Never heard of this problem before and never had such an issue with the b max or previous fiesta. I dont think the system is even capable of writing to or deleting files.

Suggest in the first instance to try another usb stick to rule out a problem with that.

If the new stick wipes too then i suppose it coyld be a power surge problem.

Are you using the usb stick close to any motorised or other magnetic source? The magnets in a speaker can wipe data from a flash drive for example.

I have never seen usb memory sticks affected by magnets. - of course hard drives and floppies can be.

Yeah, this is a strange one. The Ford system cant wipe a USB, but something has. The only thing I can think of is a power surge. Very odd, possibly a loose connection somewhere? Maybe a loose connection on the USB pirt or a loose port? It will be interesting to see the resolution.

I have never had a a USB stick actually wiped BUT I have seen the situation where the entertainment unit claimed it was. Basically the thing tries to update its index every time you fire it up and it has limited memory. I realized this when I used a 64 Gb stick and after a month it claimed it was empty, plugging it in to my computer proved it was not. I now stick to 16 Gb sticks but even then I have to force it to reindex occasionally . (the option is on the menu)

sync on my fiesta plays my 8 gb usb but not my 16 gb usb. in fact it shows it as empty. not sure if it is the brand or the size that is the issue.

on the b max, i have only ever used the 8 gb usb as it contains more than enough music for my needs.

Something else just occurred to me. Any USB stick must be formatted as FAT32.
It will supposedly not recognise NTFS, FAT16 or any other format.

My USB drives have only been inserted into the socket on the dash so it is not subject to heat or magnetism. Both drives have been completely wiped of all content as seen when inserted back into my PC. One had some 5Mb loaded and all completely deleted. I have also loaded music back onto the USBs OK so it is not a USB problem but definitely a B-Max problem.

Thanks or all your comments. I can confirm that all files get deleted from the USB having looked at the USB on my PC after being used in then car. It is cleaned completely of all files.

I recently had a new double clutch fitted under the Ford 5 year warranty and asked the dealer to check the USB system for me. They say it does not have any faults. I shall contact a specialist car radio installer for some advice. If it gets fixed II shall post the reason.

As it is a Sony radio system I thought I would have a look on the Sony website to see if anything appears there. On a couple of Sony radios units, which can accept a USB drive, there are very clear instructions that a USB should not be inserted while starting and stopping the engine!!! If I follow this procedure the USB is not wiped and works each time. This might be a workaround but at least I do not have a USB wiped clean each time I start or stop the engine.Does anyone know if the electrical system should have a capacitor somewhere in the power circuit to stop spikes?

Not sure, but my flash drive stays plugged in at all times. Not sure if it takes any current when the car is switched off, though i had it plugged in to the fiesta for 5 years with no probs. Fiesta radio was ford and b max is sony.

Same with me. My USB stick stays in and works fine. When I start up it picks up where it left off, handy for a long recording.
