With a new car comes the problem of my sat nav, tom tom one. it fitted fine on my cmax, due to horizontal slats but with the B max comes vertical slats. My mount for the sat nav does not allow rotation and I was hoping to ditch this anyway and use my Nokia lumia 820 as a sat nav, trouble is finding a reliable mount? So guys and ladies, my question is what do you have for your sat nav/ mobile phone holder and how reliable is it for fitting and stability?

Interesting set up Makem. Did you fashion the black plastic sheet yourself and how is it secured? Thanks
I bought a small sheet of non flexible shiny black plastic. I made a cardboard template to fit exactly and cut the plastic, chamfering the lower edges to match the slope of the sides where they would fit.

I used the thinnest double side stickies normally used for sticking on number plates, cutting each into two pieces. I used 4 of the small pieces to stick the plastic in place. Because they are thin the plastic look like it belongs there. From previous experience I know these can be removed without trace.

The plastic I found on the internet, I could probably find that source again if someone wanted to give it a try. You must be sure the plastic is difficult to bend as the suction cup of the support is quite strong.

The overhanging arm, I bought via the internet and it is great, giving you a variety of positions but keeping the whole thing low and out of your eyeline.

That's the long answer, short, yes I did!

EDIT: Plastic source :-

Oh! by the way,I know that the disc is on show, but I put my Sat-Nav in the boot under the main floor and I have not had anybody trying to break in. Actually you have to look real close to see the disc from outside and if anybody had a go I cannot see them breaking into the car and then breaking in to the boot when they find nothing. They would not want to hang around.

Hi certed
Why not keep your Sat-Nav and get these like I did. They are original Tom Tom cheap in price and they work a treat. I have put mine on the smooth flat area above the SYNC information screen (not in front like Makem) which means you do not block the screen and it is easier to get to than the window. They work a treat

Hi Specialk,

In fact where the holder is attached positions it so that the whole info screen is visible to the driver.

The main thing I think is that the satnav is not in you immediate line of sight. Those which are stuck on the screen block out quite a large area of the road, pavement and are distracting or so I have found. Mine is in the control area rather than extending the area you will look at inside the car whilst driving.
