I'm still waiting for my fuse puller thingy, so no progress on the HFS problem. However, proving that problems don't come singly.....

My daughter was driving the car (2013 B-Max 1.0 litre 125PS Titanium - manual/petrol - 38k miles) last Wednesday afternoon, when the dreaded orange spanner appeared and the engine just cut out. She called me, and then rang Green Flag, who turned up promptly and plugged in their magic diagnostic screen. Three problems were revealed:-

P0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low. Signal Compare Failure.
P0101 Mass Or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance - No Signal
P053F Cold Start Fuel Pressure Performance. Signal Amplitude Less Than Minimum.

So, clearly a fuel issue of some sort. Mr Green Flag went to the engine compartment fuse box, and checked Fuse 34 (Fuel pump relay, diesel fuel heater) which had blown. He replaced the 20A fuse, and the engine started. So he gave me a couple of spare 20A fuses, and I set off to drive the three miles back to my home.

Sadly, after 2 miles the orange spanner appeared again, and once again the engine died. I replaced the fuse again, but with no joy - the engine wouldn't start and the fuse blew immediately. Fortunately, my local (non-franchise) garage was just around the corner, so the car was towed to their workshop.

They have had the car for a week now, and have not yet identified the problem - although they have told me that the fuel pump is not faulty.

So, has anyone had a similar B-Max experience? Or does anyone have any suggestions as to which areas to investigate?

Many thanks for your wise words,

David

Problem resolved - the issue was a corroded section of the wiring loom causing an electrical short..

My local garage diagnosed the problem, replaced the damaged section and presented me with a very modest invoice for their efforts.

Hi all, since there are no solutions mentioned to this problem, I provide one. I am driving a 2014 version, 125 hp Titanium.
I was experiencing the same problem as described above yesterday. We have excellent coverage from Ford Assistance in the Netherlands, so I had somebody from the Dutch "ANWB" next to my car in no time. After reading the error messages he got to checking the fuse box. Fuse F34 was out. He replaced it and when starting the engine it blew immediately. He removed the air intake filter. There is a bunch of wires underneath. One of the wires had been damaged and was touching the metal of the car underneath. It is quite tight there and after years of trembling the wire was stripped bare. We saw a nice burning spot on the metal.
The immediate fix was to use a tiewrap to pull the bunch of wires away from the metal. Now I am fixing it permanently by wrapping electrical tape around the wires and gluing a piece of rubber on the metal were it burned.

I hope this helps. Seems to be a common problem for B Max and Fiesta.
I have a picture that shows where to look, but cannot upload.

Hi all,
My 63 plate B Max, (zetec 1.4 petrol, I have just over 2 weeks) did this yesterday. Pulled out from a stop, went to go from 1st to 2nd and no engine! Just died, cranks and nothing. I got recovered to my reliable garage, the recovery guy didn't really try but did think it was fuel supply. Today my garage had it running after replacing the coil pack based on diagnostic reading and new plugs. I got about 200yds from the garage and she died again!
I'm suspecting its a short, and I've told the mechanic, so I'm awaiting the next update 🧐
