I have had similar problems with Fords in the past -

mine is a 2nd hand car nearly 3 years old but the previous owner seems to have a telephone directory of phones connected to the system

any tips please on how to link my fone to this hopeless system - been try8ng every month for a year now !

If there are still phones in the sync unit database then you will have to delete them.
Adding your phone to the sync unit is very easy, it took me about ten minutes to do which included downloading the phonebook from my phone.

It's a pretty straightforward and flawless process. Yes, I would delete any previously connected phones and and contact lists first and of course check that your phone is compatible as some old or cheap phones may not be.
