My Bmax has just had an annual service. I noticed that they had charged for replacing the coolant expansion tank cap. I asked why and the answer was that it was found that the rubber washer in the cap was degrading. Impression given was that this was a common problem.

Had this happen to my expansion filler cap. Twice.
It's a very poor design. When you try to remove it, the top comes off leaving the pressure relief part stuck inside. And it's a pig to shift it.
I now put a smear of glycerine around the two rubber seals every few months.
It's the same problem on most Ford cars and vans.
Hywel, modern coolant lasts a long time, it's quite possible that your dealer has never removed it.

A Ford approved repairer now. They did sell new Fords but were one of the many dealers who had the franchise taken off them within the last 12 months. Only sell nearly new/used Fords and other makes.
