About to collect new Titanium 1.0 125ps on Saturday and now thinking have we done the right thing. Having read a couple of the reviews, fuel economy does not sound good compared to what,s stated. Along with several issues with windows and the stop/start. Should we be worried by what we have read?

Try not to worry !! The basics behind fuel economy are how you drive, and the terrain on which you drive. I have the 1.6 diesel and consistently achieve 64 m.p.g. In fact yesterday my dealer switched back to summer tyres for me, and as a test I reset the economy meter for my 35 mile return journey on a warm engine. The journey was along rural roads with a few minor hills and my maximum speed was around 52 m.p.h. Amazingly I averaged 79.6 m.p.g. overall, and at one stage I was getting 90 m.p.g.

You will not achieve anywhere near this, but with thoughtful driving and anticipation I think it is possible to get much better returns than what have been reported in this forum.

As for the electronic gadgets that have resulted in so much debate in this forum, my view is that stop / start; auto wipers and auto headlights are not significantly useful. Stop start is a strain on the battery and starter motor, and cannot realistically be expected to work on an engine that has not warmed up. Auto wipers are for the lazy, and if left on could be damaged on an icy morning, and auto headlights can be annoying when they go on and off on a road that alternates between open country and wooded boundaries. I once thought a following driver was trying to attract my attention because his lights were flashing constantly, only to realise what the problem was. There have been issues with rear windows opening but in an emergency they can be closed by stopping, turning off the ignition, restarting, and again operating the switch. This will at least get you on your journey until you visit the dealer.

There have been several other problems including failing automatic gear boxes; but I guess every BMax owner with a problem finds their way on to this forum, the thousands without problems just do not bother to join. Good luck with your new car.

Like you I pick up my new 1ltr 125bhp Zetec in the coming days and I am looking forward tothe change from diesel to petrol. This Ford three cylinder petrol engine is a very refined unit and if you don't drive it like a boy racer the fuel consumption should be Ok, of course youcannot expect to get the same MPG figures like some members get with there diesels but you can rest assured you have one of thefinest smallpetrol engines out there.

The 3 cylinder petrol engine has been around for a long time. In conjunction with my business I had a fleet of Subaru Justy 3 cyl. vans. All of them passed 80,000 miles with no maintenance other than routine services required. What did niggle me was being incorrectly charged for 4 sparking plugs time after time !!

I have owned a few cars in my 50 plus years of motoring. The 1.0 ltr 125 engine is one of the most refined I have owned. It does 40.7 mpg about town and really shifts if you put your foot down. Unlike my previous 3 cylinder car (Polo) it actually likes low revs, the Polo had to be revved like a banshee to get it to go.

I look at the MPG this way :- it performs like a 1.6 if you want it to, it does 70 mph at about 3k revs pulls up hills with four up like a train, and is a nice car to drive. So 40 mpg is not bad, my old Polo would do 50 mpg but it was not a patch in terms of performance.

Nothing has gone wrong with mine, anyway if something minor does go wrong the dealers will fix it, if something major goes wrong (and I haven't read of many major faults) again the dealers will fix it.

All new cars can have problems regardless of make, and remember that those who have had a few faults are the ones most likely to post on forums and complain loudly.

My advice? Enjoy the car, if you doget a few niggles just get them sorted and forget it.

Yes I agree, three cylinder petrol engines have been around for some time now in one form or another But this Ford 1ltr 125 bhp unit
has not! I don't need to tell you Engine management technology moves forward all the time! don't know if you haveseen this YouTube clip on the unit

Had my 1.6 diesel Titanium for 6 months now. 8000 mile later, not a scrap of trouble, never been back to the dealer. Quiet, refined, comfortable, although my wife wishes the passenger seat was as adjustable as the drivers.
Looking forward to many years of trouble free motoring (where's that piece of wood to touch....!)

Hi!

I have had my B-max (1.0 - 120 hp) for exactly 1 year now.

No problems at all - have only been once at the dealers to get the annual service


Everything works fine, including start/stop, rainsensor, automatic headlights, rear windows, heatedfront screen, SYNC, .....

The fuel consumption does not match the official figures, but as far asI know that's the fact for all (or almost all) new cars fromother car manufacturers too. In the beginning I was really annoyed by that, but now I'm beginning to enjoy the motor instead. It's really a fine motor, that you can drive smoothly and save petrol, but when you want it, it can work like a 2.0 petrol engine and has a torque like a diesel. Of course the fuel consumption rises, when you let the horses work, but isn't thata part of the fun by driving a car ??? I enjoy to embarras the much greater cars in the urban traffic, when the light changes to green


When that is said, I have noticed that the fuel consumption very much depends on the wind incountryside driving. Headwindand the tall B-max is not the best combination

We would like to thank you all for your comments, we now have a clear understanding and can't wait to collect and enjoy.

Hello Denmark, yes the B Max is not exactly streamlined and the elements do have an adverse effect on performance. Comments regards the auto lights working need a little thought. I have found they tend to go on and off with minimal changes in light conditions, and I prefer not to use the option. I would worry that they might flash on and off approaching a road junction where a vehicle was waiting to cross your path. Could be nasty !!!

Just to join the throng as it were. I have the 1 Ltr 90ps
Zetec and at the 5 month point and 580 miles so far so good. I don't have some
of the Titanium refinements such as stop/start or auto lights and wipers, I had
them on my last motor but not this; the wipers are not a problem when it rains
I put them on but I found the first couple of evening drives I had gone a mile
or so before I remembered to put the lights on.



As for the MPG case. In my last motor a 1.6 Fusion + I was regularly
into the 45 plus mpg and like many here was happy to read Ford details about
the great claimed mpg for the B Max. I have to say I am only getting about
40mpg with mine and I am certainly not a ""˜boy racer'. However I contend with
the fact that the B Max is a fairly heavy car for a 1ltr 90ps even with the
turbo kicking in when it has to and so like one or two others here have not
lost too much sleep over it and I now enjoy the car for what it is.

I have had my 1 litre 100 BHP for 3 months with absolutely no problems. Just done my first 1000 miles and have to say the car has exceeded expectation. Yes petrol consumption is not what Ford claim, I am getting only 38 around town, but that is acceptable to me and if I need a bit of power the oomph is there. I hope you enjoy the car as much as I do.

Its arrived at the dealers now
but have told them I would like it taxed from the start ofApril, I believe you can tax a new car Two working days before the start of the month. So they are willing to register it on Friday for me, just means they will have to wait a few days longer for there money
.

Hi John

They were going to tax it this Wednesday, and as it would take that time to get it prepped.

So for the sake of one extra day I decided to get it started from Friday starting on April. I know its free the first year but this has happened to me before when you get yournew tax disc it has gone back to the start of the month.

It also saves a month when you come to renew it, not much at £30.00 per year, but every little helps, after all I am a Scotsman!
