Having a problem getting the rear drums off. There is a hole in the backplate with a rubber grommet - is this for slackening off the self adjuster? If so how does one go about it? I can just make out what looks like a ratchet wheel but no idea how to release it. Drum is free and not rusted on. At 30K miles there's probably a bit of a wear lip in the drum, hand brake is of course off. Do I need to slacken it off at all? - the hole must be there for something.
Can't find anything on You Tube or written, the Fiesta brakes are totally different, but perhaps similar to a Focus?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks, Dave.

Assuming you are checking to see if the shoes are o.k , i think you'll find most will say to leave them alone (unless you're sure you have a problem.) They should last for many more than 30 000 miles.
