Fat Controller I used a 10mm socket to undo the long wing nut which, as others have stated, was very tight. The hexagonal head for the socket is between the wings of the wing nut.

chrisodapz As others have said not sure what Ford was doing when printing the manual , mine is a titanium so unless trim different on other spec but found out the hard way by chance. As usual car makers don't make things easy for the driver to do bits themselves

Ah well, I know how now
Just been trying to work out how to change the brake light bulb. I was telling my wife that the handbook made no sense at all. She replied
" that sounds like the trouble you had changing the headlamp bulb on the Focus !! ". I used to work for Ford and quite frankly appalled by the fact that the whole rear lamp cluster has to be removed to change a bulb.

A big thankyou to Supersinky for posting the resolution to this problem.

cianpars Why would they need to update rhe manual, they're only interested in selling cars.

If they ever do update the manual, perhaps they could also inxlude some realiatic mpg figures.

Ford challange Just changed my stop/tail bulb 2.22 from Ford Dealer .The flap is there but you need a Stanley Knife to separate the flap from the main trim .The wing nut needed Mole Grips to start it of .All OK after that follow hand-book (It would an easy job for a Gynaecologist)
